Are you the boss-man

Are you the boss-man

When browsing the #leadership hashtag on different social media channels I often find the “leadership is not a title” or “a boss is not equal to a leader”. Even though I agree with a lot of these comments and posts I would like to draw attention to the title and what it may mean to a leader. From my own experience I would not be described as the natural leader, I don’t own the room and everyone don’t by default listens when I start to talk.

I’m an introvert with an analytic mindset. I need to take a moment to absorb the situation and the tension before I speak. I think former employees would describe me as a good leader and I think the reason that I haven’t just disappeared is my title. If you, as an introvert, are not invited to the discussions you might not say anything at all.

When you hold a title people expect you to have an opinion and the natural thing for other people to do is to seek approval for their, or ask for your opinion. The title give people a seat at the table and a sanctioned time to speak their mind. There is a difference between a boss and a leader, but for some being the #boss is the enabler to become a great #leader
